Quinoline Yellow - UCHEL001 — Angryape Magazine Review

The mighty Quinoline Yellow return fresh from the Dol-Goy Assist release back in March of this year with Uchel001 on the new Uchelfa label. A self produced limited run, housed in a smart 3" green poly case for those of us that like minimal yet neat gimmicky packaging.

With a total of five tracks and a running time of just 19 minutes, what this lacks in length it most certainly makes up for in content. "Offshore Account" the first track and the last track "Hardwood Draughtsmen" actually sound like remixes of each other with the latter track upping the tempo slightly, both use the same style of programmed beats and chords, each with its own twist on things.

"Cawl" has an amazing use of samples that sound much like a pepper grinder, squelches, a keyboard key being pressed, all carefully arranged and placed to produce the rhythm and beats for some beautiful soft sweeping sounds to lay over. Track four "Cyriack Parasol" could be categorised as IBM - intelligent breaks music, with all manner of clipped beats going off on tangents and directions, interchanging and dropping amongst each other, sounds chaotic and works a treat.

This is as good if not better than previous Quinoline Yellow productions and just goes to show what a talent Luke Williams the producer is. Kudos to Skam Records for unleashing Quinoline Yellow onto the world with his four previous releases (not forgetting the highly collectable Japanese promo only split release with Duplo Remote) however if this is the start of Quinoline Yellow going it alone then we welcome him with open arms.
